The classic charlotte originates from foggy England, or so it's commonly believed. Originally, it was a kind of baked pudding, generously served with creams and sweet fruit sauces. Then the charlotte changed a little and began to be called apple pie.

Charlotte gained particular popularity in Germany. There, it was made with regular bread, fruit, and either butter or custard. Soon, the term "charlotte" came to refer to almost all sponge cakes made with apples.

Although most recipes for this pie involve the use of high-calorie ingredients, sugar, butter, and flour, there are several options for preparing a diet charlotte.

Apple Pie "Charlotte on a Diet"

Diet charlotte with apples

What is the difference between a regular and a diet charlotte?

First of all, the diet charlotte is made without butter, sweet creams, or sugar. It's made with ripe, sweet apples, which are what give the pie its sweetness. You can, of course, use a sugar substitute, but it's better to add honey to the dough.

Ingredients:

  • premium flour - 1/2 cup
  • oatmeal - 1/2 cup
  • eggs - 1 pc
  • chicken egg whites - 2 pcs
  • honey - 2 tbsp
  • sweet apples - 5 pcs.
  • cinnamon powder - 1 tbsp

Whisk the yolk until light in color. Beat the whites thoroughly in a separate bowl and combine them in a deep bowl. Add the flour and oats. Gently and smoothly stir the batter from the bottom up to maintain the oxygen barriers. Wash and dice the apples, add honey, and let them release their juices. Fold the apples into the batter. Line a pie pan with parchment paper and sprinkle with semolina or flour to prevent sticking. Pour the batter into the pan and bake until done.

This low-calorie apple charlotte is ready! It goes perfectly with green tea, juice, or any fresh juice.

Another dietary charlotte is prepared with kefir.

For the pie you will need:

  • flour - 1 tbsp
  • oatmeal - 3 tbsp
  • chicken egg - 1 pc.
  • chicken egg whites - 2 pcs
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cane sugar - 1 tbsp
  • kefir 1% fat - 1 tbsp
  • sweet apples - 5 pcs.
  • juice of half a lemon

Beat the egg whites until stiff, then mix in the yolk beaten with sugar. Add the flour and baking soda to the bowl with the eggs. Stir the mixture gently from the bottom up, adding the oats a little at a time. Pour in the kefir and mix again.

While the oven is preheating, prepare the apples by dicing or wedging them and drizzling them with lemon juice. Pour the batter into a parchment-lined pan and add the apples. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) until fully cooked, which should take about 30-35 minutes.
