If you cut the watermelon flesh into cubes, then arrange the cubes on a flat surface and freeze them, you'll get a watermelon dessert in the form of frozen ice cubes. This treat can be stored in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator all year round.
Your New Year's table will be original thanks to a bowl of fruit ice.
Chinese watermelon dessert
If you're one of those hostesses who loves to surprise with something original and unusual, then the following recipe is sure to please you, and the finished dish will be a hit with all your guests.
For preparation:
- Wheat flour 60g
- Corn starch 50g
- Sugar 50g
- 1 chicken egg
- Ice crushed into small pieces
- Watermelon
The cooking process requires attention and precision, but you're sure to succeed, as long as you really want to make this Chinese-style watermelon dessert.
Let's prepare a batter from starch, eggs and flour, add sugar and a little water so that we can dip the prepared pieces of watermelon pulp into the batter.
Dredge the watermelon in flour, then in batter, and deep-fry at 170°C (350°F). Immediately after frying, place the pieces on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Once the watermelon pieces are battered, you can sprinkle them with powdered sugar, caramel, or chocolate.
Candied watermelon
Not only watermelon pulp is useful for preparing delicious desserts, but also the rind, which can be used to make delicious candied fruit.
Once the watermelon rinds have separated from the flesh, you'll need to trim off the outer layer of green skin. This is approximately 2 mm of skin. Carefully cut the remaining rinds into small wedges and immerse them in boiling water for 4 minutes, adding 2 tablespoons of lemon juice first. After this "bath," immediately rinse the rinds with ice water and pat dry with a paper towel.
Cook the syrup:
Bring 0.5 ml of water and 750 g of sugar to a boil, add the dried watermelon rinds to the syrup, simmer for another 10 minutes, and then leave in the pan for the entire day or overnight (8-10 hours). The next day, repeat the procedure exactly, and on the third day, add lemon juice to the freshly boiled syrup. After the third boil, collect the rinds in a colander and place them over a saucepan to allow the juice to drain. Now, dry the rinds in the oven at 40°C (104°F) or in a special dehydrator. The finished product should be "simmered" in a dry place under powdered sugar for another 2-3 days.
The process of preparing candied watermelon is lengthy, but this product also does not spoil for a long time, so you don’t have to be frugal with the quantity of dessert.
Watermelon Serbian
A wonderful summer dessert for a country table or a sweet bachelorette party.
Puree the watermelon pulp, removing all seeds and any green rind, using a blender or food processor. Add the lemon juice, extracted from the whole fruit, to the resulting puree. Cut one lemon lengthwise, scoop out all the contents from the wedges, squeeze the juice into the watermelon pulp, and reserve the rind to form cups.
Refrigerate the resulting lemon-watermelon mixture until completely frozen. Afterward, you'll need to blend the watermelon mixture again to re-puree it.
Place fine sweet and sour ice over lemon peels and serve.
