A little about the benefits
Dried fruits enjoy enormous and deserved popularity. And this is hardly surprising: after all, they are already a ready-to-eat delicacy.
Dried fruits are just as good as their fresh counterparts for making desserts. Moreover, they even have several advantages: they're available year-round, store well, and, thanks to modern drying technologies, retain the maximum amount of nutrients.
Prunes, for example, are not only amazingly tasty, but also extremely healthy:
- it has a very beneficial effect on the digestive and cardiovascular systems;
- improves metabolic processes and reduces weight;
- has outstanding antibacterial and antioxidant properties;
- gives a boost of energy, improves performance and rejuvenates.
It's used in countless ways: compotes and kissels, salads and fruit soups, pie filling, candy and ice cream. The recipes are endless.
We invite you to explore several fantastically delicious desserts made with prunes. We hope you enjoy them and add them to your recipe collection.
Original salad
This is probably the easiest prune recipe to make, yet incredibly delicious. It takes no more than 15 minutes to make, and the results are always delicious. The ingredients are minimal:
- 300 g sour cream (20 – 25% fat);
- 200 g prunes (pitted);
- 100 g each of sugar and walnuts;
- 3 – 4 pieces of chocolate.
First, soak the prunes to soften them. Simply soak them in hot water for 5 minutes. Don't use boiling water, though, as this will make them fall apart unappetizingly.
To save time while the prunes are soaking, mix the sour cream with sugar. Stir thoroughly until completely dissolved.
After 5 minutes, you can remove the prunes from the water. Before further use, dry them with a napkin or paper towel.
Now begins the dessert's creation. The first layer of prunes is placed in individual bowls. For convenience, you can cut them into small pieces. The next layer is lightly chopped nuts. Finally, pour the sour cream sauce over everything.
It's best to let the dessert sit in the refrigerator for a few hours to allow it to soak in. Before serving, sprinkle each serving with grated chocolate. A delicious dish is ready!
Homemade sweets
It's impossible not to mention these simple, yet delicious, homemade prune-based candies (without artificial colors or preservatives, as they say). To make them, you'll need:
- 250 g prunes (pitted, of course);
- 100 g each of almonds - ground and chopped;
- a teaspoon of cinnamon.
The cooking process is not complicated at all:
- Dried plums should be soaked in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Then remove and dry. Afterwards, puree them in a blender.
- Mix the resulting mixture with ground almonds and cinnamon. If it's a little dry, add a little water or honey.
- Form the resulting "dough" into small, walnut-sized balls. Roll them in chopped almonds on all sides. Refrigerate until serving.
Jelly cake
A very unusual and incredibly delicious cake, combining fluffy sponge cake and a delicate jelly filling. To make it, you'll need:
- 3 eggs;
- 100 g flour;
- tsp baking powder;
- 2 tbsp. starch;
- 1 cup of sugar;
- 250 g of sour cream (20% fat) and soft cottage cheese;
- 200 g pitted prunes;
- 10 g gelatin;
- 50 g of chocolate.
First, the base of the cake, the sponge cake, is baked:
Beat the eggs thoroughly with half a cup of sugar and mix with the flour, starch, and baking powder. The dough is ready. Use a springform pan, otherwise the finished cake will be impossible to remove without damaging it. Bake the sponge cake for 20 minutes in an oven preheated to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit). Once done, let it cool in the pan.
While the base is cooling, you need to prepare the top jelly layer:
- Soak the gelatin in ¼ cup of cold water. Pour half a cup of hot water (not boiling!) over the prunes.
- After 10 minutes, remove the soaked fruit from the water and pat dry. Next, cut them into small pieces. Strain the infusion formed during soaking into the gelatin. Heat everything in a double boiler until the gelatin dissolves completely.
- Now, beat the sour cream, cottage cheese, and remaining sugar with a mixer. Then add the prunes and gelatin. Mix everything well and pour onto the cooled cake layer.
- Place the future cake in the refrigerator and leave it there for about 4 hours to set.
Just before serving, remove from the mold and decorate with grated chocolate. It's beautiful and incredibly delicious! Enjoy!
