It's now completely impossible to know who first came up with the idea of baking apples, or when. But it's undeniable that this simple and ingenious recipe remains relevant to this day. Baked apples continue to enjoy enormous love and popularity.
Undeniable benefits
What's the secret to the longevity of such a simple dessert? It's in the fruit itself, of course. But it's not just that. It's also in the cooking method, which not only preserves all the nutrients but also ensures significantly better absorption. In some cases, baked apples are far preferable to fresh ones.
Mastering the recipes for making them is essential, if only because these fruits contain a large amount of potassium, making them very beneficial for the heart muscle. Doctors not only (but strongly!) recommend taking this tasty remedy for intestinal ailments, colds, and allergies. Children and the elderly should also include baked apples in their daily diet.
Those looking to slim down should also seriously consider switching to baked apples—this dessert is seriously beneficial for weight loss. It's also worth noting that this dish is considered a dietary dish.
Baked apples smooth out wrinkles and improve skin condition, normalize metabolism, and increase muscle tone. So, it's time to explore and try some recipes for making them.
Honey pleasure
It must be said that all the recipes for baking these fruits are extremely simple. But perhaps the champion among them is this one: baked apples with honey and cinnamon.
There's probably no need to convince anyone of the benefits of honey. Indeed, this product is extremely rich in trace elements and vitamins, can purify the blood, and improve digestion. Moreover, honey has tremendous energy value. It's no wonder it's recommended for those who are sick or experience intense physical activity.
Therefore, it would be quite reasonable to replace sugar with such a healthy product when baking fruits. A The combination of apples and cinnamon is simply a recognized classic.
So, we should stock up on:
- 4 apples;
- 4 teaspoons (according to the number of fruits) of honey;
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
Preparation:
- Wash the fruit thoroughly and dry. Cut off the stems and, using a knife or teaspoon, carefully scoop out the core and seeds. Be careful not to pierce the fruit completely, otherwise all the juice will leak out.
- Place the apples in a baking dish, sprinkle the cavities with cinnamon (½ teaspoon each) and add a teaspoon of honey. Pour a little water into the bottom of the dish and bake in the oven.
Many people wonder: how long should they bake apples in the oven? There's no definitive answer—it all depends on the variety and size of the fruit. There are two ways to determine when they're ready:
- visually - the wrinkled skin of the fruit will tell you that the treat is ready;
- Mechanically – pierce the side of the fruit with a toothpick. If it does so easily, the dessert is ready.
On average, apples need to be baked for 25-30 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Incidentally, the flavor of this delicacy can be enhanced by adding crushed walnuts or almonds to the honey.
Filling options
Recipes generally offer a variety of filling options:
- you can mix sour cream with sugar (to taste), add berries to it (for example, cranberries, raspberries, currants) and stuff the prepared fruits;
- Cottage cheese goes very well with honey, sour cream, dried fruits (raisins, prunes, dried apricots).
Simply put, there are no limits. Instead, there's the opportunity to unleash your imagination and create your own original version of this ancient dessert.
Interesting solution
As mentioned earlier, recipes for making hot apple delicacies are anything but static. Experimentation is always welcome. So why not incorporate the experience of classic puff pastry baking?
One package of ready-made dough is enough to bake 6-7 medium-sized fruits. Prepare the fruits for baking as in the previous recipe. Any filling can be used. For flavor, add traditional cinnamon or the ever-failing vanilla.
Next, roll out the dough to a thickness of 3-4 mm, brush it with beaten egg, and cut into 2 cm-wide strips. Next, take each apple and wrap it in a spiral of dough, starting from the bottom. The egg-moistened side should be directly next to the apple.
Bake the apples wrapped in puff pastry in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius for 30 to 40 minutes. Sprinkle the finished dessert with powdered sugar for a more dramatic effect and added flavor.
In conclusion, it remains to be said: apple recipes may change, but their benefits remain the same.
