Apple Pie "Sweet and Sour"
Content
Apple pie is a classic recipe that should be in every housewife's arsenal. Apples are one of the most affordable fruits, combining a pleasant taste with numerous health benefits. This article presents a unique recipe that's sure to become a staple in your cookbook.
Bulk pie
This apple pie is quite simple to make, and all it requires is a little patience and attention to detail. Apple baked goods are generally easy to make, but this dessert takes the cake. Its low calorie count is a distinct advantage. Compare this pie to the Prague pie, and you'll immediately see which is healthier and more sensible.
To prepare a loose or "dry" pie, you will need the following ingredients:
- A kilogram of apples;
- 1 cup semolina;
- 1 cup of sugar;
- A third of a teaspoon of salt;
- 1 cup flour;
- Half a teaspoon of baking powder;
- A quarter teaspoon of vanillin;
- 100 grams of butter.
Apples are easy: you can choose any variety to suit your taste. Some people prefer apples with a tart flavor, while others prefer sweeter, plumper ones. Once you've chosen your apples, wash them.
How to cook?
Take a convenient bowl and pour in a cup of semolina. Add a cup of sugar and a cup of flour. It's best to sift the flour, but this is optional.
Note that there are no eggs in the recipe. They're omitted precisely because the cake is bulk, meaning it's "dry." So, add salt, vanilla, and baking powder to the bowl. If you're determined not to use baking powder, baking soda can be used as an alternative. Mix the dry mixture thoroughly.
Now it's time for the most labor-intensive step. It's time to work on the apples and peel them. If you're in a hurry, family members can help with this difficult task. Personal experience shows that with sufficient skill, the task can be completed in less than ten minutes. The peeled and washed fruit is grated using a coarse grater. A food processor can be used as an alternative.
It's time to bake
The pie crust is almost ready; it's time to bake. Grease the pan thoroughly with butter. To make things easier, line the bottom with foil or parchment paper. This will help you remove the pie quickly and neatly and serve it without ruining its appearance.
Pour a third of the dry mixture into the bottom of the pan. The batter should be evenly distributed. Place half of the apple mixture on top of the dry layer, being careful not to disturb the layer, otherwise the pie will lose its structure and may burn. You can lightly press the apples with your fingers.
Grate the butter from the freezer using a coarse grater. Place the creamy layer on top of the two previous layers. Sprinkle the second third of the dry mixture on top. Then add the remaining half of the apples. Press them down again with your fingers to even out the surface. Add another layer of butter and a final layer of dry mixture, and the pie is ready to bake in the oven.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit). Bake the pie for 40 minutes. It's important not to remove the pan immediately after baking, as this could damage the dessert. Allow the pie to cool completely.
Innings
Apple pie doesn't necessarily need to be decorated, but if you're planning to serve it for a holiday or just to please a loved one, there are a few fun ways to do it:
- The first and easiest way is to beautifully and artistically drizzle a piece of pie with caramel, chocolate, or vanilla topping. It will be very sweet and incredibly delicious.
- The second option is mint. A sprig of fresh mint always decorates desserts, and adding a scoop of ice cream to the pie makes the dish very fresh and summery.
- The third method is to drizzle the pie with lemon juice. The slightly tart flavor will contrast with the sweetness, creating a very unique and pleasant taste.
- And the last option is a white chocolate ganache (1 bar of chocolate + 50-70 milliliters of cream, melted in a double boiler). The mixture will be similar to condensed milk, but the flavor will be much more refined and subtle.
Bon appetit!
