It might seem that Mexican cuisine can only impress with fiery spicy dishes, hot salads, and world-famous burritos and fajitas, but that's not the case. Mexico, the birthplace of chocolate, offers all manner of delicacies, desserts, and sweets. By the way, hot chocolate with a pinch of red pepper is the trump card of Mexican desserts.

In fact, the culinary map of Mexican cuisine is very rich, and it is in vain that many recognize Mexico only for its spices, because for true connoisseurs of desserts, Mexico can offer much more than just sweets.

Fried bananas

Mexican Desserts 2

This delicacy is traditionally served in many Mexican homes with a variety of sweet sauces and condiments. One of the most popular recipes is bananas in caramel sauce. To prepare, you'll need:

  • 4-5 bananas, if they are large, you can take a smaller amount
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar, in the original recipe - brown
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • Half a glass of heavy cream
  • A tablespoon of sesame seeds
  • Ice cream – will be needed when serving

The first step is to toast the sesame seeds in a dry frying pan until golden brown. Then, start sorting the bananas. It's best to use smaller bananas—they're sweeter and have a richer flavor—but if you're lucky enough to have larger ones, that's okay. Cut each banana in half, then cut it in half lengthwise. Then, sprinkle with half the brown sugar.

Next, fry in a non-stick frying pan. Add the banana slices and fry thoroughly on both sides until golden brown. Then, transfer them to a plate and leave in a warm place while you prepare the sauce.

For the sauce: Place the sugar and butter in the same pan and cook until the sugar is completely melted and the mixture is golden. Then slowly pour in the cream and add the sesame seeds, and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.

To serve the dessert: place a few bananas on a plate, drizzle with caramel sauce, and top with a scoop of ice cream. Enjoy!

Anise cookies

Mexican Desserts 3

For those who adore baked goods, Mexican tortillas, cookies, and gingerbread are true works of art. One traditional recipe is Mexican anise cookies. To make them, you'll need:

  • 500 g of margarine
  • A glass of sugar
  • Two teaspoons of anise
  • Three tablespoons of orange juice
  • Six cups of wheat flour
  • A pack of ripper
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • A pinch of salt

First, prepare the ingredients. Melt the margarine using your preferred method (microwave or double boiler) and let it cool. Mix the flour with cream of tartar and baking powder. Next, beat the margarine with the sugar, add the anise, and whisk until thick and creamy. Gradually add the eggs one at a time, whisking constantly. Once all the eggs are incorporated, mix well again and add the orange juice.

Mix the flour with the whipped mixture and knead the dough. Roll it out, shape it into a log, wrap it in cling film, and refrigerate for half an hour. Before baking, preheat the oven to 180°C.ABOUTRoll out the dough. You can cut off a third of the dough first and roll it out later; it'll be easier. The dough should be 1.5 cm thick, from which you can cut out the cookies. Bake at a constant temperature for just 10 minutes.
