Preparation

Step 1

Rinse the blueberries in a bowl of water and remove any debris that floats to the surface, such as twigs, leaves, and stems. Drain through a colander, and when the berries are completely dry, transfer them to a bowl.

Step 2

To prepare blueberries whole berries, put some in disposable bags.

Step 3

We wrap the end of the plastic around it in several layers so that the packaging is tight enough.

Step 4

Grind the remaining blueberries using an immersion blender until you get a smooth puree.

Step 5

We distribute the resulting mixture into silicone molds that can withstand low temperatures. If you use regular ones, the material may crack. For easy removal, place the molds on a thick board immediately.

Step 6

Place the mixture in the freezer until completely frozen. It will take 2 to 6 hours for the berries and puree to firm up, depending on the refrigerator's capacity.

Did you know that…
The name "bilberry" wasn't given to these dark-blue berries with their burgundy juice because of their color. It comes from the verb "chernit'" (to blacken), meaning "to stain." When people picked and ate these berries, their lips, tongues, and hands would inevitably become stained with the juice, which is where the plant's name originated.
One form is enough
If you have a lot of berries but not enough molds, no problem. You can remove the frozen blocks of puree and transfer them to bags. Simply puree the blueberries in small batches and immediately place them in the freezer. You can even make frozen cubes or stars using ice cube trays.
