Preparation
Step 1
Sift 200 g of flour, then add baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir the mixture. You can also use other spices, depending on your taste. Nutmeg, cocoa powder, and zest are also excellent choices.
Step 2
In another bowl, place softened butter and add sugar.
Step 3
First, carefully mix the butter and sugar with a whisk, then you can use a mixer.
Step 4
While beating the butter and sugar, the mixture should lighten in color. At this point, add the egg and continue mixing.
Step 5
Add slightly warmed liquid honey to this mixture and stir.
Step 6
Add half of the sifted flour and spices to the dough and continue to gently knead. You'll need to reserve some flour for rolling out the dough.
Step 7
Add the other half of the flour and mix it in. At this stage, it will be easier to mix the dough with a spatula rather than a whisk.
Step 8
Dust a work surface with flour and pour the mixture onto it. Add a small amount of flour on top and begin kneading the dough with your hands.
Step 9
Place the dough in the refrigerator for a few hours, covering the bowl with plastic wrap. This will firm up the dough, making it easier to work with.
Step 10
After this, roll out the chilled dough between two sheets of parchment paper to a thickness of 3-4 mm.
Step 11
Cut out the desired shapes from the dough and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Space the shapes apart from each other as they will expand during baking.
Step 12
Place the baking sheet with the gingerbread cookies in the oven for 5-7 minutes, until golden brown. Then remove and let them cool. You can decorate the cookies with icing made by whisking egg whites and powdered sugar. You can also add various food colorings to make the cookies more colorful.
