We have already prepared it together classic brownie, and today we’ll prepare no less delicious cookies.

Chocolate brownies are a truly American treat, served to children by parents in Canada and the United States as a complement to a traditional glass of milk. It's easy to guess that these cookies are named for their rich brown color and vibrant chocolate flavor.

It's a known fact that brownie cookies were first made in America over 100 years ago, but that first recipe didn't contain any cocoa powder or chocolate. Fannie Farmer's brownie recipe lists no ingredients other than pecans, molasses, sugar, butter, eggs, and flour.

After cocoa and chocolate became widespread and became one of the most beloved sweets of Americans, they began to be added to "brownies", obtaining an even brighter, rich chocolate flavor.

Classic American Brownie Cookies with Chocolate

A classic brownie cookie is round and has distinctive cracks on the surface. It should be soft on the inside, but the crust should still crunch when bitten.

This treat is incredibly quick to prepare—the entire process, from mixing the dough to baking, takes no more than 25 minutes. The ingredients listed will make approximately 15-20 cookies (depending on the size of the cookies you place on the baking sheet).

Step 1

In a saucepan with a thick bottom, place 100 grams of dark chocolate (it is better to break the bar and melt it into pieces) and 25 grams of butter.

Important! Use high-quality dark chocolate, as this ingredient determines the richness and flavor of your baked goods.
Step 2
Step-by-step recipe for making brownie cookies - step 2

Melt the chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring constantly, until you get a homogeneous mass, as in the photo.

You can heat it:

  • on the stove (if you have a saucepan with a thick bottom);
  • in a water bath (this way the chocolate will definitely not burn);
  • in the microwave (in this case, use non-metallic utensils).

Set the finished chocolate mass aside and let it cool slightly while we prepare the dough.

Step 3

In a bowl for preparing the dough, mix 80 grams of sifted flour, 0.5 teaspoon of baking powder (this is about 3 grams) and a pinch of salt.

Step 4

In a separate container, mix 1 egg (white + yolk) and 80 grams of sugar (you can use regular or brown).

Step 5

Using a teaspoon and spatula, place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

If the dough is too stiff, you can use your hands to form balls of the desired size and place them on a baking sheet, flattening them slightly. This will give the cookies a more even shape.
