The original and delicious Madeleine cookies have a long and very beautiful history.

It is believed that this unusual treat was invented by a girl named Madeleine, who lived on the Spanish coast in the city of Santiago de Compostela. She simply began baking cookies in scallop shells, which gave the pastries a distinctive and very unusual shape for the time.

There's a second legend linking this unique treat to King Stanisław Leszczyński. It's believed that his maid, Madeleine, once prepared unusual cookies for the monarch using an ancient recipe, which is where the dessert's unusual name originated.
