Milk soak can be used with almost any type of dough. Vanilla, chocolate, and fruit sponges will pair well with condensed milk.

But simply making a sponge cake soak from condensed milk and water would be too boring. So, I suggest adding a spicier twist with cognac. If you don't like this option, or the dessert is for children, simply omit the alcohol from the ingredients.

Ingredients
Servings
  • Condensed milk
    380 G
  • Water (boiling water)
    200 ml
  • Cognac
    15 ml
Preparation

Step 1

Measure out the required amounts of ingredients. Bring the water to a boil on the stove or in an electric kettle. This will help soften the taste of the alcohol and make it easier for the condensed milk to dissolve.

Step 2

Combine cognac with water.

Step 3

Stir quickly to distribute evenly.

Step 4

Pour hot water into a bowl with condensed milk.

Step 5

Mix until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Step 6

The condensed milk soak is ready. Use it for a cake 24-26 cm in diameter. Or pour it into a jar, seal it with an airtight lid, and refrigerate until ready to use. Stir again before use to ensure the soak is uniform.

In this video, the author demonstrates three simple soaking methods, each requiring only 5 minutes. The condensed milk syrup is the last one, but it's notable for enhancing the creamy flavor of the sponge cake. Definitely try it if you love bright, milky flavors.

Which condensed milk should I choose for soaking?

It's best to use only whole, animal-based condensed milk for the soak. This ensures that it will combine evenly with the water or milk when heated, imparting the desired flavor to the biscuits.

Boiling the plant-based condensed milk is strictly prohibited. The product will separate, clump, and definitely lose all its flavor.

If you're simply planning to dilute condensed milk with hot water or milk, you can use a vegetable-based product. However, there's still a risk that it won't dissolve completely. Even then, try to choose products with the least amount of chemical additives to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
