Preparation
Step 1
Cut the washed apples in half, remove the core, and slice them into wedges, peel and all. Place them in a deep saucepan or pot and add water.
Step 2
Add sugar and frozen lingonberries. Place over low heat and cook until the berries thaw and the sugar dissolves, gently stirring the bottom with a spatula.
Step 3
Bring to a boil and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally along the bottom.
Step 4
The lingonberry-apple jam is ready. Place it in sterilized jars and seal.

During the Romanov dynasty, a similar lingonberry and apple jam was prepared for the royal family and served to long-awaited guests at the landowners' homes. It exquisitely combines the sweetness of apples and the tartness of lingonberries with a subtle, noble bitterness.
