It is known that the young man and his brother moved to the United States, where they started their own business—opening a small restaurant. The establishment enjoyed great popularity because, despite Prohibition, it sold alcoholic beverages. The reason was that the establishment was not in the United States, but in Mexico, which allowed them to profit from the sale of alcohol.
One day, a large crowd of guests descended on the restaurant. The owners weren't prepared for such an influx of customers. All supplies were gone, and nearby stores were emptied. Caesar Cardini had to quickly come up with something to feed the guests. He used everything he had in the pantry: garlic, romaine lettuce, vegetable oil, eggs, cheese, lemon juice, herbs, croutons, and Worcestershire sauce. Thus, the salad, named after its creator—Caesar Salad—was born. The tipsy guests were delighted with this appetizer!
In the early 1950s, the salad was even voted the best American recipe of the last 50 years.
