Decorating cakes for children's parties
Content
Children are especially fond of cakes, their admirers and fans. They're ready to eat sweets any day. But, of course, they most often get this opportunity on holidays. And on such occasions, you want to delight your child not only with gifts, but also with a wonderful dessert table—a beautiful holiday dessert. Therefore, decorating children's cakes is a sensitive topic for caring mothers.
Many parents simply don't want to bother and order cakes from bakeries, where artisans can decorate them with any number of figurines, cartoon characters, animals, and other creatures that children find fascinating. But for those who want to surprise their little one with their own creation, a few good guides on how to decorate a cake for their child will come in handy. Before embarking on the serious task of decorating a dessert, it's important to understand the various decoration options and the necessary ingredients.
Decorating with mastic
A sweet, flexible paste that's perfect for decorating any dessert. It's similar to play dough and easy to shape. There are several types of fondant: sugar, milk, gelatin, and others.
For milk mastic we need to mix in equal parts:
- dry milk
- powdered sugar
- condensed milk
- food coloring
Also needed:
- sponge cakes
- any cream for the layer
This paste is the easiest to make and use. Mix powdered milk with icing sugar. Pour in condensed milk and knead until the mixture becomes play dough-like. To achieve the desired color, add food coloring. The natural color of the paste is beige, not white.
Next, once the mixture has reached the desired consistency, use the tools from a children's modeling set—knives, spatulas, etc.—to help. Naturally, they need to be washed thoroughly.
Spread the layers of frosting between each other. Frost the sides as well. Next, line the countertop with cling film dusted with powdered sugar and roll out the fondant. Cover the cake with the resulting layer, as shown in the photo, smooth it out, and trim off any excess. The base is ready.
To decorate the cake, use pieces of fondant to mold individual flower parts: petals, stems, and leaves. Assemble the flowers and glue them to the cake. Fondant glue is easy to make—simply soak a piece of uncolored fondant in hot water.
You can use this paste to create figures of children's fairy tale characters, cartoon heroes, and even animals. The key is patience and practice, and you'll already have the recipe for a good fondant!
Marzipan decorations
Marzipan is a classic elastic paste made from a mixture of ground almonds and powdered sugar. Like fondant, it can be used to create various shapes.
To prepare marzipan you need:
- almonds - 1 tbsp
- sugar - 1 tbsp
- water - 1/4 cup
- cocoa powder - 1 tbsp
- powdered sugar - 1 tbsp
- food colorings
Pour boiling water over the almonds and cook for 2 minutes. Drain and let cool. Next, take a kernel between two fingers and press firmly to release the skin. Place the clean kernels in a hot frying pan and roast, stirring, for 15 minutes.
Then, place the nuts in a blender and puree them. Meanwhile, make the syrup. Dissolve the sugar in water and cook until the mixture thickens. Then add the almonds and cook for another 4 minutes. Remove the paste and let it cool. Once the mixture is cool, grind it in a meat grinder. Next, to give the marzipan the desired hue, add a drop of food coloring and blend thoroughly until the paste is uniform in color.
Now let your imagination run wild. At this stage of cake decorating, remember your play dough lessons from kindergarten. Armed with special tools, create masterpieces: figurines, animals, flowers, cars, and other childhood delights.
Children's cake "Cream skirt"
Of course, no one has abandoned the use of frosting as a baking decoration. Frosting is a classic dessert decoration. It can be made from butter, protein, or cream, etc. The main thing is that it holds its shape.
"Cream Skirt" is a cake for a girl made with sponge cake, frosting, and buttercream for decoration. The highlight of the cake is your daughter's favorite doll. She will be the festive dessert—or rather, her edible skirt.
Ingredients:
- sponge cake layers, 3 cm thick - 5 pcs.
- any impregnating cream - 500 ml
- heavy cream 33% - 500 ml
- powdered sugar - 200 g
- cream fixative - 1 packet
- food coloring (optional)
- raspberries - 100 g
- strawberries - 100 g
- blackberries - 100 g
- Barbie doll
First, you need to prepare the doll—wash, comb, and groom the upper part of its body. The lower part should be wrapped in cling film.
Assemble the skirt. Cut holes in the middle of the cake layers to allow for the doll to be inserted. The bottom layer should be the largest, the next layer slightly smaller in diameter, and so on until the skirt is formed. Assemble the layers, coating them with any soaking cream. Insert the doll into the center.
Prepare the cream to decorate the skirt. Combine the cream and powdered sugar in a dry, clean bowl. Beat for a few minutes, then add the thickener. When the cream has a firm texture, stop beating.
Next comes the most interesting task: decorating a children's cake. Using a pastry bag with a flat opening, cover the entire surface of the cake with thin ribbons of frosting. Over these ribbons, you can decorate the hem with flowers, patterns, and leaves of various colors. When the cake is ready, decorate the hem of the skirt with a scattering of the prepared berries.
